My background is working for 25 years in the field of performance psychology, leadership, team and culture development. I have worked for twenty two years in the UK and Europe, three years living and working in the US. I came into this world having completed a Masters in Sport & Exercise Psychology.
A slightly circuitous route to Culture development but in fact very similar in approach and focus. Sport Psychology is curious about what separates high, medium and low performer teams and individuals much like the world of business. That difference is rooted in the interactions people have within the cultures they work in. What is that difference that allows people to become very interested in what they are doing also allow them to learn and improve so they can be better than others. I’ve worked with companies such as Coca Cola and Microsoft as well as medium to entrepreneurial sized enterprises.
The work is the same – how to help key individuals pay attention to how their interactions can facilitate high performance and engagement, the perfect conditions for being in the flow state as they deliver for their teams and organisations. This can come in the form of Exec Team strategy development and facilitation, team culture development, leadership development and individual coaching of high performers. I’m fascinated by that process and helping facilitate that in cultures for others.
Alongside my corporate work and while I was working in the US I provided Sport Psychology support to the women’s US Olympic rowing squad coached by Tom Terhaar which was stimulating seeing a performance culture and a coach who was fascinated in the process of coaching and led the crew to multiple Olympic successes.
Further back in time I grew up watching channel 4’s early coverage of the Tour de France in the mid eighties and chose to race in France in the early nineties with a French team living with a French family in Brittany. An early view of sporting teams and cultures and the extent to which they enable or make high performance more difficult.
I’m married to Anne and have two children, Juliette and Thomas.
